What’s well service packing / fracturing pump packing?
Pressure pumping, also known as hydraulic fracturing, is a well stimulation technique used to extract natural gas and oil from low-permeability formations such as tight sandstone, shale, and some geothermal reservoirs. Natural gas and oil are transported to the wellbore through a high-pressure pump (i.e. fracturing pump) composed of a power end and a fluid end, which pumps sand or ceramic proppant slurry to create cracks. The fluid end is responsible for injecting high-pressure slurry into the well - all of which operate under extreme pressure, high temperature, and high pressure conditions. The fluid end is crucial for production, but unfortunately, it is prone to malfunctions. This is the strength of WSP. By using appropriate well service fillers, OEMs can improve fluid end efficiency and reduce the overall lifecycle cost of pumps.
The well service packing (or WSP) acts as a seal to prevent high-pressure slurry leakage in the pump. The outer diameter of the packing forms a static seal at the fluid end of the pump, while the inner diameter acts as a dynamic seal on the pump plunger, as the plunger moves back and forth on their respective suction and discharge strokes. The pumping medium typically includes a mixture of water, chemicals, and sand or ceramic proppants. WSP provides integrity by forming dynamic seals to prevent fluid and material from flowing out of the fluid end in an uncontrolled manner. High performance WSP can provide a powerful sealing mechanism while protecting the mating surface of the plunger and fluid end, protecting the environment from pollution, and maintaining environmental and safety control throughout the entire fracturing phase.
The well service packing developed by JST has effectively improved the lifecycle of the fracturing stimulation equipment.
On the fracturing pump, JST develops special seals to meet the working conditions of high frequency, long stroke, high pressure, different sand ratio and acid fracturing fluid.
The EVZ series well service packing developed by JST can work continuously for 50-80 layers under the conditions of 70-110mpa, 10% sand ratio and acid fracturing fluid. Different seal forms meet different working conditions, which effectively reduces the maintenance cost of the fracturing equipment.
On the valve inserted of fracturing pump, the PU material developed by JST have an excellent impact resistance. At the fracturing site of shale gas well, it can work continuously for more than 16 layers under the condition of 80 ~ 110MPa and 18% sand ratio.
